Theia Mania (Soundhog remix)

Soundhog is the main alias of North Wales resident Ben Hayes.  Having made a small name for himself as part of the 'Bastard Pop' class of 2001/2, and as a DJ of some renown for a short while, he's carried on quietly working at the fringes of the musically acceptable over the past ten years, building up a small arsenal of ropey analogue synthesizers and 1/4" tape machines in the process.  Listing everything he's done would be far too time consuming, as would his various musical outlets and other projects, so just heading over to www.soundhog.co.uk would be a better idea for the uninitiated.

Theia Mania (Fox's Kraflaesque remix)

KRAFLA was Simon Fox (grover / world of fox) + Steve Hough (einstellung / cable regime / godflesh / grover).

"Lovely electronica." Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1.
Extending the experimental tendencies of groverkrafla added layers of depth and instrumentation to fragile song structures and delicate melodies, mixing live instruments and electronica. A debut 7" single on Static Caravan Records was followed by an e.p. on Bearos Records and tracks on a number of compilations on different labels.
This remix is by Simon Fox. Remixes and other projects are always considered.

Theia Mania (Fox acoustic remix)

Simon Fox is an acoustic meddler, with work ranging from traditional folk songs to more challenging sonic experiments. Since disbanding grover, Simon has quietened down, trading sweeping guitar theatrics for more intimate, acoustic-led songwriting. The songs, performed under various fox monikers, show a more personal, reflective side, with deceptively rich arrangements, a disarming wit and a flair for creating intimate moods.
The debut fox release, the first rule of comedy by lonesome fox was released in december 2007 on bearos records. a host of fox singles and exclusive compilation tracks are available on where it's at is where you are records, and the debut solo album, everything is for the best by world of fox on commercially inviable records. In 2010, world of fox released one free cover of an '80s song each month as part of the respect project and the whole thing was released on where it's at is where you are records at midnight on new year's eve 2011. The latest album, borrowed times, will be released summer 2013 on commercially inviable records.

Theia Mania (Hardy Tree remix)

The Hardy Tree is the musical alter ego of illustrator Frances Castle who runs the Clay Pipe Music record label.Back in 2010 The Hardy Tree made an album of songs and wobbly instrumentals and  called ‘The Fields Lie Sleeping Underneath’ inspired by Frances’ London neighbourhood both past and present, the album was played by both Jarvis Cocker and Stuart Maconie and the two hand made editions sold out quickly. Since then The Hardy Tree has been on hiatus and Frances has concentrated on her label - putting other peoples records out, notably Darren Hayman’s ‘Lido’ and Jon Brook’s ‘Shapwick’. However over the last couple of months The Hardy Tree has started to grind into action again, and at some point there my be another record, but for now there is this remix. The Fields Lie Sleeping Underneath can be downloaded here: http://thehardytree.bandcamp.com/Clay Pipe Music is here: www.claypipemusic.co.ukFacebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Clay-Pipe-Music/Twitter  https://twitter.com/ClayPipeMusic

Tasty review

"Album highlights are found in ‘Festival’; a joyous dance-along track made for summer bonfires; ‘Desire’; a somewhat sultry and sorrowful tune on which Victoria delivers possibly her most beautiful vocal performance; and ‘Cry Baby’; a song full of synth hooks which get stuck in your head for pretty much the rest of the day. " - PERFECT!

RELEASE DATE!

Friday, 2 August 2013

Theia Mania (The Leaf Library's Sing Around You remix)

The Leaf Library live in London and make occasional droney pop music in the vein of Yo La Tengo and Broadcast. (They all love other music too including Sonic Youth, Steely Dan The Misfits and keyboard era Miles Davis but that doesn't always make it in.) They have almost released music on a number of indie labels and their one and only album to date, 2011's 'Different Activities, Similar Diversions' was self-released (with a little help from the Proper Songs label). After a couple of brief appearances on stage and an appearance on the WIAIWYA Olympics compilation (with the track 'Badminton House', they took some time to do other things like working and making babies. The band's next release will be as part of the WIAIWYA singles club in 2014 and is likely to be called 'The Greater Good'.

Theia Mania (Haiku Salut remix)

and this brings us onto the remixes for the third single to be taken from Victoria and Jacob's debut long player. the BEAUTIFUL Theia Mania... the first mix comes from Haiku Salut... and this is an extremely exciting thing...

this weekend you can see Haiku Salut playing at indietracks (and you should, oh, you should) and Victoria and Jacob playing the Secret Garden Party...

it's all go... hope you like the mix as much as we do... thanks Sophie, Gemma and Louise!

Haiku Salut are a trio from the Derbyshire Dales who use accordions, ukeleles, glockenspiels, pianos, loopery and laptopery to create gorgeous instrumental music that part folk, part neo-classical and part electronica. Their debut album, “Tricolore”, was released in March, and received four star reviews in The Guardian, Uncut, Rock’N’Reel, Drowned In Sound, and many more. “Whether they're potentially scoring the next Wes Anderson film or the next imagined movie in your head, Haiku Salut effectively meld together electronic, contemporary classical, and accordion-heavy indie into a lovely post-rock sonic,” wrote Popmatters, while Uncut declared: "If Sigur Ros shared a cottage in Dovedale, they might just sound as magical as this.”

Debut album “Tricolore” can be bought on CD, vinyl or digitally at:

Yukka is London based electronic musician Jacob Mayfield. His sound incorporates house samples and field recordings with mesmerising vocal cuts and delicate percussive textures. He is currently in the studio working on his debut EP due for release later this year.

album launch at the Lexington, London

yup, finally the album launch, with Azure Blue and Cosines... it's a Sunday evening, and we finish early so you can get home in good time to get a good night's sleep before going to work the following day... and tickets are available here

AZURE BLUE

Azure Blue is the new solo project from Tobias Isaksson. We've known Tobias for years as a talented songwriter and a colorful profile on the Swedish pop scene. His old bands Irene and Laurel Music attracted worldwide recognition, documented from The Allmusic Guide to the blogosphere, but this is a brand new start. With Azure Blue, Tobias has surpassed all his previous work. The whole process has been like watching a baby dolphin being born.
The name is a paraphrase of Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue". Tobias says: "It's Wilson's honest look with the epic beard and the ocean blue mood itself that has inspired me. Along with other male storytellers like Earnest Hemingway, Klas Östergren and Grant McLennan. I wanted to make a mature AOR record but ended up flirting with new wave and new romantic as well."
"Nostalgia fuelled pop harking back to the heyday of Factory Records, Isaksson's material is deeply romantic with a deft production slight of hand that can single-handedly break your heart and indeed heal it in one fell swoop." The Line Of Best Fit (UK)"The best electro-pop record in recent memory." Blurt Magazine (USA) 9/10 review"Think a more optimistic Radio Dept. and you're somewhere in the right direction." Street Lights As Fairgrounds (UK)

COSINES

Cosines are a mathematical pop band from north London. Simon Nelson and Alice Hubley met on the London Underground after a Stereo Totale gig in 2009. Two days later Simon was round Alice's house unblocking her kitchen drain. Since then Simon has been round and put up two curtain rails, a blind and a shelf.
This unlikely meeting, got them talking and once the DIY was done they started making music together, fusing metronomic pop sensibilities, 60′s grooves and krautrock noise. What you maybe would get if you mix Love, United States of America and Stereolab. As a band they are constantly trying to find the perfect meeting point between clean synths and fuzz guitars.
"as refreshing as bicycle practice" Everett True"Marshmallow-fed, mathematically inclined indie-pop" Drowned In Sound"[Hey Sailor Boy!] sets off as a northern soul stomper before adding lovely strings and flirty lyrics. And they have produced not one, but two, catchy efforts, as b-side The Answer is also pretty darn good, albeit more in a Stereolab synth krautrock styleeeee" Sounds XP

Cry Baby (Papernut Cambridge mix)

"Former Death In Vegas and Thrashing Doves guitarist and now prolific underground producer/engineer Ian Button has a list of current projects and collaborations that include Go Kart Mozart, David Cronenberg's Wife, Deep Cut, Darren Hayman, Pete Astor, Rotifer, Paul Hawkins etc. Papernut Cambridge is his new band/project - conceived in a dream in 1990 and realised in 2013 by getting friends, guests and bandmates to send recorded parts via email, their vinyl only LP/EP package Cambridge Nutflake will be the second release (in September 2013) on the new Gare Du Nord label co-op formed by Button, Robert Rotifer and Ralegh Long. Topics demonstrated include the absurdity of dreams, repetition, the power of alcohol, and the value we place on art itself. And repetition."

She has already received UK and international radio play for her 50 Cent remix and has produced for Damian Marley and Nas. Sazrah has also scored for independent films, composed Catwalk music for UK fashion weeks, and theme music for UK radio stations.
Sazrah is passionate about encouraging females in the music industry and is overwhelmed to have the support from her all-time favourite inspiration, Missy Elliott.

Cry Baby (DJ Downfall mix)

DJ has been putting the finishing touches on his third long player for around a decade now, in the meantime he worked on last year's Turner Prize winning film, plays guitar in indie legends Tender Trap, hosts regular club nights and remixes the great and the good; everyone from the Postal Service to the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Kenickie to Help Stamp Out Loneliness have benefited from DJ’s electronic throbs and thumps – like Vince Clarke’s charity shop rocking beats, only in a broom cupboard

Cry Baby (Cosines Remix)

Cosines are a mathematical pop band from north London. Simon Nelson and Alice Hubley met on the London Underground after a Stereo Totale gig in 2009. Two days later Simon was round Alice's house unblocking her kitchen drain. Since then Simon has been round and put up two curtain rails, a blind and a shelf. This unlikely meeting, got them talking and once the DIY was done they started making music together, fusing metronomic pop sensibilities, 60's grooves and krautrock noise. What you maybe would get if you mix Love, United States of America and Stereolab. The band were completed by Daniel Chapman, The Late Jonny Drums and Kajsa Tretow. The band are currently working on a debut album and consequently doing less DIY.

The band's debut single "Hey Sailor Boy! was released on Fika Recordings in May

Cry Baby (Darren Hayman remix)

There is very little Darren hasn’t turned his hand to, from instrumentals about lidos, to lifesize lego models of pets, from albums of traditional English folk songs to a year-long residency at an East London jazz club, from being in the biggest little band in Britain to curating an exhibition of people and animals in space… and here is yet another string to his bow – dub-indie remixing

Cry Baby (H U S H! remix)

H U S H ! are a british indie dream pop trio from Bridport, Dorset, England formed in 2011. Currently in the studio with Che Albrighton from Clock Opera (Island Records, Moshi Moshi Records). H U S H ! release their debut single later this year. Hyped on blog's and zines throughout 2012 and tipped as SoundXp's 'Tips For 2013' as well as being played on BBC Introducing a number of times. This is Indie Pop not far from the likes of New Order, The Durutti Column, Echo and the Bunnymen, Twin Shadow & Beach House offering a grand & atmospheric ShoeGaze texture to a pumping rhythm section of analog drum machines and synthesisers. Described as  'an eclectic mix of everything good about the 80's with a modern and original touch'.

Monday, 3 June 2013

Cry Baby (Antwerp remix)

and without wasting a breath we're onto Cry Baby, the second single to be taken from Victoria and Jacob's debut long player:

London based producer, Antwerp has a new EP, 'Myriad Shapes',  out on the 17th June via his own label, Noise Praise. Darling of the blogs and with a burgeoning live-show - 2013 looks set to be a big year . Just don't ask if he's Belgian. Because he's not - Ok?

a nice Festival review from Sounds XP

those kind chaps at SoundsXP have this to say about Festival:

‘Festival’ is shimmery, melodic, euphoric, Balearic electropop, of the sort usually cooked up in some expensive Swedish music factory...it has a clear pop quality that will take them far.

thank you kind chaps at SoundsXP

Monday, 20 May 2013

Festival (Johan Hedberg remix)

the penultimate remix of Festival comes from Johan Hedberg:

Johan Hedberg is best known as one half of Swedish pop group Suburban Kids With Biblical Names. They wanted to “turn all the dance floors into a burning inferno of Ba-ba-ba”, to quote the Kids themselves. And with their debut single “Rent A Wreck”, they surely did. They sound as if they’ve been writing songs together since the beginning of time. Or perhaps more like children who’ve played together forever.

In 2005 Labrador released their debut album simply called #3, which not only reached the charts in Sweden and got amazing reviews here - it was somewhat of a slowly growing worldwide success. The album was released in late 2006 in North America and in 2007 in the UK. In Sweden it was nominated for a “Grammis” year 2005 (a prestigious prize at the big award show “Grammisgalan” in Sweden).

Johan is currently recording his debut full length solo album, to be released in the autumn. A new single will be released in June, on Labrador, called Nacamasterna. During the last year Johan has remixed Acid House Kings, Making Marks and now Victoria and Jacob.http://www.labrador.se
